Artist Statement:
Although there are many faces
to my work, it is unified by a

fundamental concern with the
communication, expression and

arrangement of emotional
experience and marked by an
ongoing struggle for their
mastery. My painting is
vibrantly gestural, abstract
and challenging. Beyond
occupying space on a wall,
some sort of meaningful
dialogue or interaction with
the viewer is sought.

Canvas and paper provide the
support, and paints, ink and
other
materials the medium. Life
experiences -others and mine-

help initially to move the
brush. I then set about
trying to bring order and
meaning to the composition.
In this way, each work
represents a process of
maturation and self-mastery.
Many works result from
considerable reworking and
layering of earlier
paintings, and thus provide
not only great depth and
substance, but also a palpable
sense of heredity.

My work as a professional
psychologist and life
coach(http://www.drritcheson.co
m), my life in London, my
memories, hopes and regrets
are a few of the sources on
which I draw for inspiration
and energy. In the
amorphous and difficult world
in which I find myself, it is

in the confines of the canvas
that I choose to contain,
explore and understand ...

Artist Reviews:
February 2005. Personal
Communication.

Immediately evocative, this
collection of works, although
diverse in
their styles and textures,
show a deep understanding of
colour. Dr.
Ritcheson's natural ability
comes through in all of his
paintings, and although one
can associate his style with
his influences, an...
originality is present.

AndrewI had no idea you had an artistic string to you bow. I love your work, great use of colour and tone, really impressed!Well done you.All the best, and a happy new yearMark

Louise-Ann
just took a look @ your site.... wow!!! reminds me of that quote by Picasso: There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun your work seems wonderfully lyrical and dextrous!!! a fair old portrait of human condition.

Jeff Palmer
Exceedingly good work. “Gestural”, indeed! I felt absorbed into some of your images and almost swept away. If emotions can be painted, they would certainly created from your palette.JP

Victor Rolfe
Stunning work! I really like it!It would be great if you could post a few examples at: http://www.artfreaks.comhttp://www.artfreaks.com/show_us_yours/index.php

Andrew your paitings have just taken on a life of their own and truly reflect what we as humans are and go through. I am very impressed and I find myself looking back and often to dig out more. The reason is because the paintings offer much for the viewer. I remember as teenagers you painting away and now feel proud of you for reaching such a strong artistic merit. Great work.

Michael Lightsey
Visually arresting. I love your use of color, gesture and the way your art communicates on an emotional level. Beautiful work.

maura egan

mica meadow
thank you for inviting me here. i was moved and appreciated in particular the rich colors. the works draw out a range of emotional response that make prolonged looking a moving experience. it is difficult to choose a favorite.mica

excellent work- i wonder why you destroyed emma- i don't know why it bothers me so much but it does. i loved emma- it screamed sexuality to me and now it's gone forever.
