Artist Statement:
It is true that the aim of
expressionism is to find
visual equivalents for
personal, intangible things
like experiences, thoughts,
feelings and emotions. It is
also true that the purpose of
abstraction is to get to
basics: strip away outward
appearance and familiar
landmarks, and you are left
with the essence of the
subject.

I paint not to reproduce a
copy of what I see, but to
give expression to how I feel
about my observations; and
because I mainly work on
sensual and intellectual
questioning and sustained
contemplation, the unexpected
forms and freedom of abstract
art are the most direct way to
convey the content of the
painting. I am definitely not
interested in “illustrating”
it. My work is about
interpretation rather than
representation.

A long time is spent on each
picture. I often make changes
or even destroy the image,
although I always leave
visible in the new composition
some previous key element of
the original.
The idea of changing, partly
or complete, the original
painting doesn’t worry me
because the painting has a
life of its own, and my aim is
to try to let it come out.
