Artist Statement:
Emma Carter takes a meditative approach to her paintings. She draws her inspiration from the ever changing natural land and seascapes that surround her, which she then expresses on paper or canvas as a reflection of her mind, her memory and her vision of these beautiful places.
Having traveled extensively from the tops of the Himalayas and Andes, to the coral reefs of the Great Barrier and the depths of the Amazon, her imagination has been fired by some of the most sacred and stunning places.
The scenes in many recent paintings have been inspired by the noble timeless English coastline, mostly in and around Devon and Cornwall.
‘I have very fond memories of spending time with family and friends out on the ocean or on the beautiful open beaches or sheltered hidden coves accessed by little grassy tracks or rambling sand dunes.
Having spent much time at my family home on Burgh Island, South Devon, I have felt an affinity with the coast since being a child.
