Artist Statement:
“Michael Fornadley, a painter from Pickerington, Ohio, labors under no illusion of plausibility, since his quirky tempera tableaus depict the odd antics of characters acting out improbably, confrontations in a theater of the absurd.”
The New York Times, 1998
All my life I have been creating images out of my...

Walter King Mr. Fornadley, Let me be the first to sign your guest book. Exceptionally fine work. The color and compositions are exciting as usual. The Prophet is a new format I think. Can't wait to see the new woodcuts. So glad you are on wwar.com. Walt
Philip Hale Michael:Thanks for the nice comment a few weeks ago. Saw your work yesterday at the State Fair, and it reminded me to write. I enjoy seeing the work and can relate with a lot of the things you are working with. I want to pass your website on to a few friends of mine. Congratulations. Philip HalePS-I must have missed your show at Wilmington College. Did you work with Hal or Terry to put up this show?
Sharon Chapman Nice Job Michael!
Terri Higgins Hi Michael, always a pleasure to come across a ccad artist and especially one with an appreciation of expressionism. Really enjoyed viewing your work..loved seeing something that gives me something to think about. I'll be checking out the 2 artists you mentioned, hope to see more of your work too.
Renata Lledias The expresion and mystery in your paintings drives me to find a story and maybe the end in each one. I really like your work . You can create emotions when you look all the faces and the objects that leads your work.
lellouche rene your site is the best I have seen until now, great works! rene lellouche
Marc Schiavone A stunning collection. I have only begun to look it over, but my first impression is that your work expresses a stark--yet playful-- panoramic view of human nature. Is this a sort of retro style of art?? On the one hand, a critic could say that this work was already done 80 years ago, but what makes this work stand out in my view is that you have utilized the art form from an midwest-american perspective. The Ohio-ordinariness of the settings makes your message loud and clear!
Jellena you are my hero

Ron Massey Michael, I still find it a pleasure to view your work, the division of space and the dynamic of the figures across that space impressed me from the first. Your approach to the absurd stage set of human tragedy ,(a timeless subject),has a controlled dark humour, the kind that makes a strange sort of glee rise in the being. The Divine Comedy is still a favourite of mine. In the right mood, I can spend a lot of time looking at these works. In my opinion you’ve taken Baltus among others into the 80’s and 90’s and onward but maintained integrity;… its your work, it’s another time and another continent, the tone and colour is all stronger…the tone and colour of the new world, the rat race of western suburbia….and yet there’s still a charm and glimpse of optimism left over. It’s not an easy thing to achieve that balance.
Ron Anderson Excellent artwork with a wonderful style and use of color. You have a very nice portfolio of work here on absolutearts.
