Artist Statement:
I have had a camera with me
since the late 1970s, but my
photography really didn't take
off until I moved to New
Mexico from Chicago in 2000.
New Mexico is a land of shapes
and color brilliantly
illuminated by the sun. Upon
moving here, I shot strictly
in color, fascinated with the
magic of the sun, but lately I
have concentrated on
monochrome images, both 35mm
and digital, although on
occasion I am inspired to
shoot a roll of color. I am
drawn by shapes and shadows,
the secondary, almost abstract
patterns they etch on film or
arrange by way of electrons. I
began as a traditional
photographer in the
traditional darkroom, but with
the advent and advance of
digital photography I rely
entirely on my computer,
although I prefer to take the
final image to color
photographic paper, usually
Fuji Crystal Archive paper
through the LightJet process.

Walter King
Kurt, beautiful work. I recently delivered a large work to a client in El Paso, then drove over to Tuscon to visit my son and his family (grandkids) passing through the Las Cruces area. Amazing country! On my way back to Ohio I stopped at the Mogallon range to visit the Gila cave dwellings and the wall paintings. You are so lucky to live in such an ancient place. If I come through again maybe we can get together for a beer. Walt
