Artist Statement:
S.Schraft has been creating
art for the past 20 years and
until recently was involved in
Art Education since 1973. She
has participated in many art
shows in the NY Capital
District and throughout the
country including
Manhattan,Chicago and Los
Angeles.
Establishing a connection
between the natural and the
geometric has been an emerging
theme in most of Schraft's
work. The juxtaposition of
the soft and hard edge working
with or against each other
provides a visual tension of
the elements in each work of
art.
Schraft works in many layers
of materials. She creates
artworks of mixed media
building up from the surface
with found
imagery,text,natural objects
and layers of paint and
drawings. Each piece has a
distinct composition that
includes geometric and organic
shape along with line and
multiple layers of color. The
result is a surreal quality
that suggests a variety of
interpretations from the
viewer....

We have a lot in common. I'm a college art teacher at a junction in my career (just stepping down as chair of my dept. after 7 years.) I also spent about 10 years taking students to Europe. How great that you are doing work again! I too have had a similar experience - Also a high school art teacher, majored in painting but decided to take up computer graphics. I have a portfolio of work but no venue to show it. Perhaps here? You have given me inspiration to continue and to find myself again - My work is mostly montage (photo collage using photoshop and other apps)
