Artist Statement:
Trevor Wood is an artist, whose painting style has evolved from his early, rigorous training in Scotland through a figurative perspective to become this fluid yet carefully considered abstract style of today. The work is informed by two areas of interest: the changing post-industrial landscape of north and east London (his present surroundings); and natural phenomena, wide open spaces and the natural environment. Like many Scottish artists, he is very much influenced by the natural, wild landscape of his country.
"The first provides the desolation and decay - the epitome of the end of a cycle and the beginning of regeneration. The second, by contrast, gives a more infinite, grander and natural version of the same - matter acted on by centuries of weather, showing the effects of time and the elements."
"Both are devoid of any direct human presence but there is sometimes a romantic or spiritual element to the work. I endeavour to capture the essence of these environments through use of texture and a varying use of materials on the surface of the canvas or other support material."
