Modern interpretations of the
Classical

The Process
In this series, the images are
based on masterpieces from
ancient, Renaissance and
Baroque art. I captured these
images while traveling
throughout Italy. They have
been inspired by the works of
Leonardo da Vinci,
Michelangelo and ancient Greek
and Roman art. These images
are reinterpreted through the
use of mixed media. This
modern process links the past
with the present. Each piece
has its own visual and
emotional symbolism;
therefore, my selection of
different media my vary.
In this series, I have
combined photographs,
drawings, sculpture,
photographic toners,
watercolors, oil paints,
pastels, charcoal,
photographic pencils, plaster
and applied objects. In some
pieces, mirrors are used in
the background-allowing the
viewer to participate and
become part of the art. All
manipulation is done in the
studio. There is no computer
or digital manipulation.
Whenever possible, I try to
retain the old master and aged
appearance by using antique
deteriorated frames. I begin
with the frame and build the
pieces inside them. In most
