Artist Statement

The power of colours and the infinite possibilities for experimentation they offer is something that fascinates and inspires me day after day. I am attracted to the unusual, the unexpected and the extraordinary. As an abstract painter, I abandon myself to emotions and moods, trusting my gut feeling and tapping into the spirit of the moment. I use colours ,forms and textures to bring across my feelings and ideas and give them an aesthetic wholeness.
Live painting sessions are a great inspirational source of energy, this is why I truly love participating in those events.

Recent work in acrylics comprises experimentation with different styles, such as a body of work characterized by the washing off of the medium with a lot of water, giving the paintings a fluid and dripping look. Typical work in a subsequent period would feature extensive use of the spatula, resulting in a strong texture with thick layers of paint. Paintings from this period are filled with boundless energy as a result of a technique that permits extreme creative freedom.

Current work is characterized by more subtle nuances, often finger painted, but also by an exploration of a new world of extreme contrasts, where emotions are introduced through a single vibrant splash. I am also still pursuing my discovery of the possibilities of gold leaves and tar, which is still opening a totally new horizon for me.

Self-taught and active for nearly 15 years, my main influence is Riopelle. I greatly appreciate his artwork from the 1950s and 1960's, but I like the whole of his oeuvre and even what he stood for as a person... Pollock is another influence I would like to cite: it was he who pushed me to let go of any inhibitions, and to drop, even to throw paint at the canvas when needed... Molinari inspires me for his use of reds and oranges which are filled with light, even when in a deep shade... Finally, my absolute master is a writer and a thinker. André Breton thought me to dig in, to let my dreams and most crazy ideas come out, either using words or fine art. His work continues to drive me today, as I try to never censor my work and myself.
